Maritime Museum in The Navy Yards

The proposal is to enhance the Navy Yards history with the incorporation of a museum that exhibits historical art and culture of the Naval Sea, while also connecting the community and bringing new life to the area.

During the Fall 2021 semester, I was part of a junior studio class where I was assigned to create a Classical style Maritime Museum in the Navy Yards in Washington, DC. When doing this project I learned to translate the classical architecture style into my design by analyzing the site’s surrounding area, which consisted of Federal style buildings mixed with modern warehouse-style buildings. The project was executed through the studies of various elevations, spatial analysis, and plans, to create a cohesive museum inside and outside.
