Embassy of Uruguay in Dupont Circle

The Embassy of Uruguay is designed to create a subtle bending engaging with the city of Washington, DC. It is a subtle bending of the architecture that mediates the street’s edge and our building.

For the Spring 2023 semester we were asked to choose and design a new embassy located adjacent to the Metro entrance in Dupont Circle, Washington, DC. Uruguay is a country rich in natural landscapes, and its architecture celebrates nature by implementing natural materials, vegetation, and landscape into its designs. This is why we wanted to integrate this natural aspect into our design by choosing natural elements for the materials, as well as integrating vegetation in the interior and exterior of the building. Our embassy follows the notion of transparency connecting the outside world with the inside world.

*All work for this project was performed in a group of three students for the ARPL402 IBDS class.
